Here’s What’s Up

I have been working hard on iSupplement v3.0.0 however, I have also started a new job so my free time right now is rare. The bright side to updating iSupplement is that most of the changes can be brought right over to iPill Trackr. Speaking of which, iPill Trackr has moved into the low 600′s on Apples healthcare and fitness top 1000 grossing apps and 800′s on the healthcare and fitness top 1000. This boost in ranking has definitely been driving sales higher.

Apple’s UILocalNotifications class is broken and needs some love.
If you use iSupplement or iPill Trackr you may have noticed that no matter how many items you have that need to be taken (alerted you) the badge for the apps always remains at 1. There is no built in way of tracking the badges number without the app being open. To make things worse, when you schedule a local notification you have to provide the badge number, increments DO NOT work. So if I schedule an alert for 1 pill the badge is set to 1. If another alert goes off it simply resets the badge to 1 again. There are a few hacky ways go track this information in order to get a proper badge number. Apple really needs to fix a lot of things with local notifications. As developers we are very limited by apple in what we can do and access. Most end users don’t see this (just read some comments about feature suggestions). The classes provided by apple need to be fixed so that we can create better apps. There is a lot of fixing that needs to be done but local notifications need a huge overhaul. From what I’ve read and seen iOS 5 should bring a new notification system. So we shall see if local notifications get some improvements.

Alright been cracking away at iSupplement v3.0.0 and its look good. There have been way more UI changes than I had originally planned, so far performance is also up. If you look at the screen sheet sneak peak you will see the new UIToolBar on the bottom of the screen. This toolbar has 2 buttons, one for viewing your scheduled medications (still need to adjust how the table view text wil look) the other will be used to track notifications that had been irgnored. You can see that the postpone button has been added, and the feature is fully implemented already.
New App in the Works – Project Shepherd

I have temporarily put off game development after coming up with what I hope to be a great idea. I am not going to give out much information on the new app yet as I am just getting started on it. I’ve named the Project Shepherd because I am not very creative and my dog is an Australian Shepherd. I will start tagging all posts related to the new app with “Project Shepherd” to make it easier to find and follow the development.

The updates were both approved within hours of each other. Both are now available on the app store. Again this was a minor update to add an easy way to backup your information if you want to.
Enjoy!
