It has been a while since I have updated the blog but I have been very busy. So what have I been working on? I have been working a ton. I moved twice (finally settling in now) and on this wonderful rainy day I have updated iPill Trackr with all of the new features I introduced into iSupplement not to long ago.

The past few weeks have seen massive sales of iPill Trackr, which admittedly, has helped to push me to introduce the update as soon as possible. I was finally able to recreate a crash bug that a few users seemed to have found and fixed the issue. So what’s new?

Added the ability to postpone doses

Added the ability to view scheduled alerts

Fixed a few bugs that were sneaking about

Updated the look of the app

Fixed the badge count when alerts go off

All in all the list isn’t very extensive but it has been time consuming with my busy schedule and the update has been submitted to apple. If this update goes like the Rainbow and Text Flasher updates it should be approved very soon.

I have also updated iSupplement to implement a few rare crashes and bugs that I happened to find as well as optimizing some of the code.

Beyond the updates I really want to begin working on some of my past app and game ideas.

I have received several emails from people with different app and game ideas some seem promising and I do try to reply to everyone but the website and apps are side projects I work on when I have free time. I do not currently make enough money doing this to stop working and dedicate all my time to app development. With all the being said I will try to update the site more often so stay tuned.

Recently we all saw the release of the iPhone 4S and iOS 5. Which brings over 200 new features to our iDevices. All of my apps that provide notifications are fully working with iOS 5. Enjoy the notification center and the new apps I am planning. Enjoy!

Here are some new screen shots to enjoy while the app is awaiting approval:

Now that I have an iPad 2 in hand I am trying to come up with some app ideas that are iPad specific. After testing ALL my apps on my iPad they all work on iOS 4.3.3 albeit in “iPhone” mode. I may make some of the apps into native iPad apps (text flasher) comes to mind. Reminder is essentially dead thanks to Apples Reminders app in iOS 5. Proxim and Million Shake challenge never really took off and iSupplement and iPill Trackr won’t be very practical on an iPad as you are more likely to have your phone on you rather than busting out the iPad just to mark your doses.

With that being said I have tested a few Facebook and Twitter apps so maybe that would be a good place to start. If you have any ideas for apps feel free to comment or hit me on twitter @csheldrick. Enjoy!

I’ve talked before about how annoying it is to increment UILocalNotification badge properties when you have multiple notifications scheduled. I made a simple Category (extension) for UILocalNotification that can be dropped into any iOS app and with a single method call will automatically update all of your badges to the correct number. The source code is up at github: here it is a simple Category but will save a lot of people from the hassle of incrementing the badges.

To use this you need to do two things. In your appDelegate usually in the – (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions method you simply add [UILocalNotification setBadge];

Secondly, you have to call this method whenever you make a change to your scheduled notifications. That is all you need to do and everytime you schedule a notification or the user opens your app the Category will run through all the notifications and adjust there badge numbers accordingly.

Enjoy!
