$0.01 Default Case Review

On August 24th I posted about the $0.01 cases I had found from Default Case. I ordered one to try out and see how good it was for the cheap price. So far I LOVE the case. It feels like rubber, is durable like plastic, and just looks cool. The case fits perfectly over the phone giving you access to you volume buttons and silent switch. The top and bottom are uncovered to allow full access to the bottom and top of the phone which means any accessories you already have should work flawlessly. The cases have a nice feeling to them that allow you to grip them securely and still add very little to the size of the phone. I think one of the best things is that this case works perfectly with an Invisible Shield. The case just grips the metal lip on the band around the phone which leaves the screen perfectly open for a screen protector. One issue I had with the bands that wrap around the iPhone is that it would push my Invisible Shield off around the edges on the back of the phone. Since this case has the back covered and doesn’t interfere with the screen protector on the front this combination is providing perfect coverage and protection. You can check out my initial post about the cases here to see the pictures of the different cases currently available.

After using this case for the last 2 days (it arrived on Friday the 27th -wicked fast) I have decided that this is best case I have ever had for a phone. I wish all the people at Default Case the best of luck with their cases and hope to see more new cases in the future!

Remember the $0.01 is for a limited time only (like a prize for early adopters) so I would say hurry up and get yourself this awesome case! Enjoy!

  1. I really liked 3GS case too. I even ordered another for my wife. The only problem is that they fall apart after a few days. Very clever marketing of a defective product… make it cost nothing and make the money from shipping.

    • That’s strange I haven’t had any problems with my case. It is still in 1 piece and seems pretty durable I have drop the phone a few times.

      • Like I said before mine is still holding up great. I recently removed the case to throw my free apple case on and almost immediately went back. The only downside I saw is that the invisible shield on the back of my phone has little “o” of dust following the design on the back of the case, which isn’t really a big deal because you can just wipe it off. The biggest plus to the case is the fact that this is the only case I have used that doesn’t try and push my invisible shield off of the screen or bunch it up.

  2. I’m in the same boat with a defective (default) case. I bought it for my iPhone 3G and it lasted for a week or so but then the rubberized coating started peeling off (like your skin peels after a sun burn). I didn’t really think anything of it but started to get annoyed because it was peeling off and ending up in my pocket and in my laundry.

I contacted the folks at Default Case and they were more than happy to send me a replacement case as well as an additional case of my choosing for the trouble (all free of charge). I got the replacement case(s) and gave one to my friend and kept the other. Again, the coating started peeling but this time I just dealt with it. Then, I started finding little piece of plastic in my pocket now. The case has started to literally crumble away.

At this point I’m just going to leave it on there until it falls off and at that point I’ll search out a different option. I had really high hopes for this but unfortunately those were dashed within the first few weeks.

    • I can’t really say much at this point. I got my free PixelSkin case from Apple and then the dog ate the DefaultCase. Although mine held up for a good 3 weeks before I switched.
