I’m back….well I never really left

It has been a long time since I last posted any work out information. The reason for this is simple: my geek side took over. I have gradually shifted from fitness to technology, mainly iPhone, information. This was a change that fit my life since I have been so busy over the last few months I have not really had much time for fitness.
New Job – Again
Yes over the last few months, actually before I really started on iPhone Development, I started another new job. Originally I was hired as an intern for my final semester on my journey to an Associates Degree. After school ended and I graduated I was still working under the title of Intern/”Temp”. This past April saw my job status change to Full Time Permanent. My work schedule has been juggled around as well. Originally starting with an alternating 3 day / 4 day work week, M-T, then M-W 12 hours a day. I was assigned to a project and my work schedule became M-F 8-5, now I am back to my original schedule which is really beginning to grow on me. 3-4 days off a week is great for really getting things done however, waking up at 5:30 AM, and getting home at 8pm to go to bed and do it again is a bit frustrating.
Why Haven’t I Been Posting?
Since the release of iSupplement I haven’t really done much more work on Apps. I have hit a dry spell on ideas for new apps and was awaiting the release of iOS4 for the updates on my apps. Now that iOS4 is here I am simply waiting for my iPhone 4 to arrive to begin updating apps beginning with iSupplement which should be getting a whole overhaul and makeover. Because I have not been working on any new apps, and my fitness schedule has all but died (more on that later) I have not really had anything that I considered “Post-Worthy”.
Updates
- Vacation was at the end of May and was excellent.
- I have completely “quit” smoking, instead I now Snus, which is going to be very hard to get as of the end of June.
- My back strain from many months ago has been growing worse despite my lack of back exercise.
- I finally upgraded my iPhone 3G after 2 years, waiting for my iPhone 4 to be delivered in the next week.
- Getting ready to move again.
- New job.
- Family events, holidays.
- Great lack of motivation to post.
- Exercise has completely dropped off of my map.
- New puppy, Australian Shepherd / Husky mix.
- Friends are having babies left and right.
- Daughter turned 3!
- Work work work.
- My girlfriend and I got engaged!
I think that sums up most of the changes that I have been going through. My very busy schedule and lack of motivation has led to a huge decline in posting. I do plan on mosting more often again, I just need things to post about!
Back Strain Back with a Vengeance
Some people may remember that a few months ago I strained my Spinal Erector in my lower back doing Dead-Lifts. This problem seemed to have been gone but now the problem is getting worse. It seems that my lack of working out, due to my heavy work schedule and general busyness has caused my back to actually get worse than when I did work out with those muscle. I did have my back x-rayed since back problems run through out my family. The result was my muscles are still strained and pulling my spine into a straight line instead of the gentle S curve that your spine should have, needless to say it is painful and the doctors are no help, prescribing muscle relaxants and naproxen 4 times to no avail, they also don’t seem to want to listen when I tell them we have tried this same combination 4 times and it does not work or even help. I am currently using a TENS machine for my back now (Thanks mom!) and it at least makes me feel less pain. Oh and the TENS machine is fun as hell when it is not on my back!
Why am I Back?
Well very recently (like 5 minutes ago) it hit me that I still have the website and haven’t been very active with it, even when I have the time. I felt kind of bad to take up space on the inter webs without posting any relevant information for some time. So here I am working on repairing my motivation to get on and post more often about whatever I feel like. Why should the site just be about fitness or the iPhone? Why can’t I post about whatever I want, it is my site and hell it even uses MY name! So expect some random, weird or strange posts to come.
Rox – The Puppy
My previous dog Boss only graced my family for a short 6 months after saving him from a shelter. He was put to sleep after a completely preventable incident in which he bit a person and attacked a puppy. With no where to put him safely I decided I wanted to be with him in his final moments. I went with him and during the process of lethal injection, the point where the dog falls asleep but is still alive he did one of the most touching things I have ever seen. Before the first of two shots he was trying to get out of the room to get the other dogs that he heard. He began barking and ignoring everyone but the sound of the other dogs (a sign the vet said that shows he was abused or forced to fight by his previous owner). Once the first shot started to kick in he began to stumble and slowly made his way straight to me, I was sitting on the floor, he looked right at me and gave me a kiss. Now for many dogs this may not seem unusual but for Boss this was very surprising he fit his muscular build with his stern and generally un-affectionate personality. He was rarely one to cuddle or show love. In his final moments he broke down and showed me his appreciation for saving him. He kissed me and then laid his had down in my lap and was sleeping with his eyes open and tongue out. The next shot is what put him in to his final sleep and he kept his head on my lap until his last breaths. Well enough of this sad story I have struggled with the decision I made since that day and it still brings a deep sadness and regret to my heart. I wish there was another way buddy, I am sorry. After the incident with Boss we began looking for a rescue dog that was a puppy. A puppy that wouldn’t been abused or mistreated so that it would be our dog, and only remember things that we have taught him. I visited a shelter and found a few good candidates but the place was closing by the time I got there from work. The next my family and I returned bright and early to view the prospective candidates. After looking around for what felt like eternity we found him, the dog that blew us all away, the dog who was just as excited to meet us as we were to meet him. At the time he was about 4-5 months old, still young. The shelter told us he came from a high kill shelter in Georgia. The shelter named him Forest because of his beautiful Australian Shepherd Blue Merle coat. He has piercing blue eyes. The only way I can describe them seems to be with the word icicles. Since the day would took him home he has loved us all dearly, never wanting to be away from us when we are awake and always in his crate in my room when we sleep, he is a truly great companion. He is also brilliant and has learned a few tricks with relative ease.
The Joy of Writing
I have never been a person who believed in the need to express ones self with art or literature and yet I feel this pull to write and get things out. I realize my writing does not do justice to what I want to express but hopefully that will get better with experience. I guess I have always enjoyed free writing and even creative writing but never “forced” writing; such as reports, the ability to write what I want or feel the need to write is definitely more enjoyable then writing what I have to write. This joy of writing hit me a few minutes ago and I feel the bug is going to be here to stay this time around.
I think that just about exhausts me for this post. Look forward to more posts, maybe even more today! I may even start doing some creative writing just for the fun of it.
